I had put off this effort since I was sort of expecting it to be a nightmare! but to my pleasant surprise, it was far easier than I expected. The unit came with no instructions, which is just fine, since everything is online and the reference to the online instructions were very easy. My application was installation on a 79 Mooney 231. The mounting system is well designed, one first mounts a plate, which is very nicely machined, on the aircraft, and then the unit itself, twist locks onto the plate with a pair of retention screws at 9 and 3 oclock position, they even included a little allen to tighten, nice little touch. I did hace to drill out the mounting plates screw holes for my aircraft, but that was not a fault of the system because the exisitng mounting points of the old tail beacon used larger screws, so it was either modify the airframe or the plate. the plate was the obvious path of least resistance. Programing took seconds, and then a quick flight and conversation with ATC, thransponder and ADSB out checked proper function!! super cool!! |

I have installed quite a few of these lately. A couple of tips: The mounting screws are 4/40, and most lamps will not be mounted with screws that size. I recommend picking up a few 4/40, and 6/32 nuts prior to starting the job, just for fun. On a PA28, the lamp screws are directly into fiberglass. I was able to get the tailbeacon screws in, but it was not easy. I recommend having a tap on hand. I am seeing better gps signal numbers from these beacons than my garmin GDL82 has ever produced. gmail me a9548925559 for tech help. I am an IA. |

Aside from what I think is a power grab by the FAA and insanely ridiculous price gouging, this is a great product. Its literally hated by avionics shops, being they dont get to charge the 1500 bucks for installing that 4000 dollar transponder. The Skybeacon installed in about 10 min after splicing 2 wires and mounting. Set up with your iPhone takes about 5 minutes. 337 paperwork took the most time. Lastly, it works. My flight back home I confirmed ATC received my ADS-B out. Lets hope it works consistently. Well done Uavionix. |

Installation (TSO version) took 30 minutes, including time needed to install Whelen type 2 pin plug on TailBeacon wire leads for a factory connection to the Position Light power plug on the Beechcraft. Setting the parameters took another 30 minutes. The ground check was done in 20 minutes, followed by a 30 minute flight check. No removing of interior side panels, floor, ceiling, or seats to route antenna or power cables. No modifications to the instrument panel. The uAvionix TailBeacon is an excellent solution to meet the Jan 1st FAA compliance requirement. |

The staff in Corona were very helpful. They back ordered this for me since my rebate was expiring soon, it showed up a few days later and they called immediately. Installation was a breeze and setup was very easy. Passed validation flight on the first attempt. Note you may have to adjust the setting to read the transponder squawk code. Test it with various configurations of power draws and engine on/off to verify its consistently reading. Im happy I waited for this to come out. Note, after you submit for your rebate youll need to email the FAA rebate help line with a photo of your invoice/sn proving you bought the TSO version. |

Recently installed the TailBeacon. Quick and Easy. Be sure to read the Install instructions closely. I found out the hard way what happens if you dont. Do not seal the fwd end of the TBeacon where the wires come out. Seems like a good idea(seal out elements) but in actuality the elements need to get in- Atmosphere that is. the wire hole is the vent for the Altitude encoder inside the unit. If you seal it it will mess up the Pressure Altitude read out. Took about a hour start to finish. So far a good Install. and good ADS-B solution. |

One of the least expensive ways to address ADSB. Since no added antenna is required install is relative easy, but it is not 15 minutes install as some say. Just 2 wires is correct, but allow time for the easy programming after you spend the time to get the aircraft info and external dimensions. Paperwork for filling in logbooks, etc. In my case, the screw size and thread provided did not match the tailcones. That required drilling out the provided mounting plate to accommodate bigger screws and larger flush fit openings. Have not tried a programing update yet. Plenty of helpful hints on internet for that. Several of these have been installed at our local flying field and everyone is pleased with performance to date. Time will tell with the electronics sitting out in the sun and cold. May need to cover like pitot tube sock for the long term elements. |

Super easy to install the Uavionix Tailbeacon on my C180. Use the existing wiring, complete the registration paperwork and go fly the recommended profile. Plan about two hours for everything, install, paperwork and first flight and of course easy ordering and shipping by Spruce. |

Installed the Uavionix Tailbeacon on my â??53 C180. The entire installation took about two hours - done. Plan 20 minutes using the existing position light wiring to install the compact device. Use the App to verify that the unit is powered and transmitting, complete the paperwork in about an hours time and then go fly the recommended flight profile. Once the flight is complete a quick log into the FAA website will verify that the unit is working or not, mine worked. |

Fantastic product. 1 star off for not having all the hardware in the box required for installation. For $2000 I think they could pop for a fastener assortment and an electrical connector pair. The installation was easy once I tracked down the parts. Configuration was easy and I was able to get the FAA rebate after my test flight. They do have a ne version with Extended squitter. For me that doesnt matter but if you fly out of the US you might look into the new product. |

Install was relatively straightforward for my Comanche. Read the details on install before purchase. The trailing edge of the stabilator covered an area intended to be available for the GPS antenna on the device. I spoke with both sales and tech support at uAvionix and they all agreed that appropriate GPS coverage could not be assured due to the stabilator blanking out the antenna. They allowed me to return the device. |

Unit is easy to install, this is not a 1090 Mhz Beacon, it transmits on the 978 Mhz frequency. However it does have ADS-B in on 1090 and 978 via its built in wifi for your iPad. You need to connect to the wifi within the first 5 mins of powering it up and then the wifi will stay on during your flight. It picks up your transponder squawk code to beacon out via the power wires going to the unit, but only in areas where the transponder is being pinged around larger airports. |

Under FAA Memo titled "Installation Approval for ADS-B OUT Systems," the FAA explains that after an STC is achieved for ADS-B OUT equipment, additional installations can be accomplished on aircraft not listed under the AML STC by an A&P with Inspection Authorization (IA) so long as the installation does not require airframe modification. This process requires completion of a two page FAA form known as a 337. There is a mostly complete sample tailBeacon Form 337 on this web page. Once the form is completed your installer will mail it into the FAA office in Oklahoma City. The process is normal for many ADS-B installations and your installer is likely familiar with the process.
