I bought it to try out ANR since my Dave Clark PNR had intermittent failures at inopportune times like in the middle of the Charlotte Class B. I fly both open cockpit and closed cockpit single engine and I figured if it didn't work I'd give it to one of my students as a gift. So far, I've only had a chance to use it in the closed cockpit environment, but I like it. No frills, but easy to use. Put a 9 V battery in it and set it on auto, plug it into the panel, and turn on the aircraft avionics power and presto, the noise goes away. Contrary to the last review...the light does come on and its working is easily known because the world is now much quieter. The auto control is on an extra cord that I just put into a side pocket for the checklist or control lock near the panel and cease to worry about it. I find it to be of acceptable comfort, even wearing my glasses on long trips. It is at least as comfortable as the previously mentioned DC. Occasionally I get a squeal in one ear for some reason, but not since I adjusted the controls on each ear muff to mid range on the individual dials. I'll fly it in an open cockpit on some warm day...I did buy an added $12 muff for the mike in the event I have problems to see how that works. But, ... bottom line...I am pleased with this selection and it didn't cost an arm and a leg. Easy to use, cheap, and effective...an unusual combination in the aviation world. I seriously considered a $700 headset...bought this...have used it for a few flights now...and feel good about my frugal decision. Gives me money to buy something I really need!

I bought two of these. One works fine, the other will have to be returned. It only receives in one ear cup. Both sides have noise reduction, but only one ear cup receives intercom and radio. I have cross checked against the other headset. It is a manufacturer defect, not a wiring issue. ANR is OK. Nothing compared to a high quality Bose, but better than nothing.

Noise reduction effective. Comfort good. However, high pitch noise from one side when descending is distracting. Stops when levelled off.

This is a hard headset to review because it is so cheap. I almost feel like I should give it to completely separate ratings, one for pilots and one for passengers. This is probably the greatest passenger headset you can buy. It's cheap, it passively reduces a great deal of noise, and it's very comfortable. I've read some reviews where people complained about the tight fit, but I liked it. Whereas many DC headset will move around when I fly, this headset stays in place. The ANR is phenomenal at reducing engine noise, because of this and being such a cheap ANR unit I consider it the ultimate headset to buy for passengers. Now, as a pilot, this headset's biggest pro is also it's biggest con: It's cheap. Almost everything about it is cheap from the microphone covering to the almost absurdly cheap ANR control unit. The control unit is fragile, very fragile. It also features a very easy to break switch that goes between Auto and On Since it doesn't come with any instruction I can only assume Auto means off. Since there is a green LED that lights up when the ANR is working, and it will NEVER light up or appear to do any sort of noise cancelling when in the auto position. In the On position, however it does a very decent job of further reducing noise, especially engine noise in light aircraft. The problem is that this is a great noise reducing headset, it is not a great headset. It's very hard to position the mic anywhere near your mouth so you have to position it as best as you can and play with the squelch to try to get it to a point where you're not screaming into the radio. Also, the speakers in the ear cuffs leave much to be desired. All the noise cancelling is great, but the speakers aren't nearly as good as in my dad's 35 year old headset! I was really disappointed in how much noise reduction there is, but how little it seems to matter in terms of radio clarity because the speakers just aren't that good. All in all, this is probably the best budget headset out there, great for passengers, but it's very cheap and cheaply constructed so don't be expecting it to in any way compare to $600 headsets.
