I installed one of these in a PiperArcher, where the tach is positioned to the left of the power quadrant and below line of sight. Custom green & red markings were done. The tach is very accurate on engine speed, but I have two serious complaints. First, the hours numbers are deep behind the window on the face of the instrument, making them difficult to read, and the rollers do not align with the windows vertically, making them nearly impossible to read. Second, even though we purchased the model recommended for the PA28-181, the clock is running much faster than our actual flight times, and surprisingly faster than the hobbs meter - sometimes up to 15-20% faster. Not happy with this one.

I ordered mine on a Friday, custom markings and I wanted a specific time set. I drained my oil, started working on some other projects on the plane. It arrived Tuesday, 5 days later, with two of those days being a weekend! Looks good, set properly, great turn around time!

This unit was a drop in replacement for my old AC Tach. The only issue you will run into is the lip around the Tach that bolts to the panel is about 1/4 thick plastic, where my original was only 1/16th metal lip. Other than that the install was smooth. Needs 1/4 longer panel screws than normal. Nothing negative to report. Good Tach.

Service was excellent. I called Mitchel directly to find out exactly what i needed for my application and asked turn around times. The woman I spoke to took down all my information including custom redline, green band and hours and told me she would get it started ASAP. I placed the order though spruce with the correct RPM markings and hours and had the new tach in my hands in less than a week!!! Excellent piece, excellent price, and excellent turn around. Couldnt be happier.

I called Mitchell and asked a few questions about the tach with a rep named Juana who was very helpful. I was told I would have to order from a distributer so I called aircraft spruce On Monday,the new tach was on my front porch when I got home on Wednesday ! This was with two added options ! My hours put in and my green arch added as well. I cannot say enough good things about Juanas service ,she is the tops ! Thank you !

I ordered mine in September 2015 and received it today January 14, 2016. That is because Mitchell was behind in their production. Kudos to Aircraft Spruce for keeping me in their system and making sure I got my shipment even after 4 months.

I like these tachs. But beware of the shipping time. I ordered on Oct 6th and received it on November 26th. Thats right 51 days later.

I purchased this unit to replace an older 1950â??s tach. On the first flight the glass face cracked! The unit was returned to AS, two months later and still waiting for news as to what Mitchell are going to do about my tachometer. No refund, no parts exchange and no information from Aircraft Spruce as to what is happening, despite several phone calls. If and when this unit is ever returned, I may adjust my rating, but for now the whole process deserves less than a 1 star rating

Took 8 days to arrive. Wouldve been nice to get a tracking number, it showed up mysteriously one morning. A&P installed it without complaining too much about it, considering a Mitchell was what was in there to begin with. Does everything you would expect out of a tach - tells you how fast the spinny thing is spinning and how many more hours of fun you have left before the next oil change. BTW, the old Mitchell failed at around 1850 hours of use, although I suspect it had been going out slowly before then, not reading quite right at the high RPMs.

Fast shipping, looks great, screened properly for my plane. BUT - failed quickly. The material in the box says that if the tach drive cable goes in too far, it can damage the tach. Also, that a full-floating tach drive cable (not anchored at either end, like a Cessna 172 and an O-300 engine) can move and snag up, occasionally leading to either higher or lower than normal tach readings, and variations. In my case, it worked fine for the initial runup. In flight, it varied between showing 500 RPM during the mag check, and showing 3300 RPM in cruise flight. Neither of those are believable readings. I sent it in, and they assured me that because the drive cable damaged the seal on the tach, they were not responsible, and it would take another $200 to repair it. Im treating this as an education, and not throwing good money after bad. Sorry I bought it. Aircraft Spruce did a great job in shipping.
