Were thrilled with the iFly 740b. Easy to use, works well with our uAvionix gear. Connecting to our Dynon D180 for HSI, winds, etc. was easy. Love the screen and features. If it would support NMEA radio freqs for the radio, it would be a huge plus. But... Easy to use, easy to read, fast, reasonably priced updates.

Hard to find anything at all less than excellent on this. Among other things that make it stand out from other moving map aviation GPSs are these: This 740b is a dedicated hardware GPS. But you can get free (not counting subscription) a version for an iPad, iPhone, or an Android tablet or cellphone. The cool thing about that is that then in my tablet I have a full function GPS thats a perfect backup to this device. The really cool thing about that is the interface/controls on the tablet or cellphone version are identical to those on the dedicated hardware box. And the flight plans, etc, can be synced between them. That way if I have to fall back to the GPS on the tablet using it is completely familiar. The last thing I want to be doing if the main GPS fails is stumbling around in a different backup GPS whose interface Im not familiar with. Finally, The customer support from the maker (Adventure Pilot) is excellent.

Great easy to use GPS. I use it in two different airplanes (one has an overhead plexi roof) and never have a problem seeing the screen. Love the self dimming buttons and route rubberbanding. I think the external antenna should come with the unit but its a small additional cost.

Yes, the iFly740B looks to be a pretty cool flight friend. I was disappointed with the information that did Not come with the unit. We seem to have to be intuitive in finding the information needed to learn of its functions and accessory devices. AS leaves out some very helpful information in its description. An email sent to both AS and the company have resulted in automated replys only. If you dig deep enough you find that an external antenna may be a wise thing to add if you can find it. Why it is not included baffles the heck out of me. A stylus attached that wouldnt get lost in the cockpit would be helpful too. My fingers must be Too fat to trigger some of the keys. I am not a GEEK type so many of these things do not come natural to me. Hoping to SEE good results in navigation however. BC

I put this in the airplane at OSH 2018 200 flying hours ago. The 740b is the most reliable avionics that I have ever owned. The iPad and Android devices overheat and run out of battery but the i740b always works.

The IFly is great, the shipping was fast. However, the customer support at Aircraft Spruce wasnt what I would expect. They passed me around until I got to their avionics repair when the person didnt have a clue, nor did he even want to speak to me. I had to pull to get him to even say anything. Next was tech support at IFly. Worthless and since not one fraction of instructions comes with it, youre on your own to solve issues. After 5 calls to them (three leaving messages they never called back) I finally got a person that helped me figure it out. The only other problem was that out of the box, it had several flights logged in the history which makes me wonder if it was new or refurbished....it works great now!!

Was sceptical about buying this gps, I flew with a friend of mine who owned a Garmin that he bought 5-6 years ago but paid $2300 to $2400 for. I paid $700 for my I fly 740 and I like it better with out a doubt. It doesnt have nav Canada maps yet but I dont need the Vector map display had all the information you need for the flying I do, if you fly in controlled airspace it doesnt show the rings of control and altitude but Im not flying into controlled airspace at all anyway, I just fly around it. From what Ive read Nav Canada mapping will be upload to us in the near future anyway if you do need it.

Recently purchased this 740b to upgrade from the 720 Ive flown with since 2012. Only ground testing so far (it is winter!) but it is much faster and brighter. They have changed the mounting tab on the rear. It remains to be seen whether Ill like it as well as the older one but so far so good. Ive never met a dissatisfied iFly user!

I have only got to fly with it a few times and just around the airport. So I have not gotten to its full potential. The only thing I have to say about it so far is the battery sure does not last very long at all. And it did say that in the instructions.

it does all the work I need . it connect a Echo ADS-B UAVIONCS , the USB to serial to Autopilot was simple works well. I like the zoom function over the airport it convert to real photographic image of the airport, Traffic display and weather , the update through WiFi at home was simple , i liked the synchronized flight plan between my phone and the IFLY740B . the reduction in price to $499 made the unit affordable early. I wish for one more item if the company Adventure pilot or Uavionics ( ADS-B supplier) add on AHAR as I understood that these will be a synthetic vision EFIS Like that will require AHAR. some of the ADS-B suppliers do have AHARS . And a second item that many experimental aircraft in the market has large if not full Glass canopy with a lot of direct sunshine coming down on the unit , the 740b is ok inside Cessna , but in my full glass canopy , the direct sunlight cause a little of shadow, I need to add a top 3 inches flat shade along the top then it will be all ok.

Aircraft Spruce is always great to deal with. This GPS was not what I expected and I returned it.

Returned. Touchscreen not great. Internet browser is poor. Much better off with iPad mini and ForeFlight.

I have been using an iPad for a wile now. The problem with an iPad is they shut down when it gets too warm, and in South Florida, this is pretty common. The iFly specs say 140 degrees, so this is no longer an issue., The display is excellent and it is simple to use. At this price point, its a great deal. The only thing Iâ??d ask for is... it comes with a suction mount. I wish it had an available flush mount. Itâ??s necessary to remove the unit to update ite., unless you have WiFi in the hangar!

Bought this product here a couple months ago, only a couple flight hours so far but I can say it is readable on a sunny day in my high wing aircraft and can take the summer heat without shutting down. And I have found their customer service is very good. Unfortunately, thatâ??s because Iâ??ve had to use it already. The internal battery seems to a trouble area for this device, I had a bad experience with two separate 700 series devices including my new 740b. The battery intermittently would not let the unit boot up at all, even on external power, sometimes cycling the battery switch fixed it, but eventually not even that worked so I had to send it back for service. Also, this website description as to what ADS-B receivers are compatible with the 740b needs updated. The ones listed here include companies that are out of business, models that are no longer available, or receivers that are only compatible with the IFly tablet app, not the 740b. I wanted to be able to display ADS-B traffic on my 740b and my iPad using one portable receiver. I canâ??t find a way to do this. If anyone is doing this please post it up on the Adventure pilot website, where the company states there are ADS-B compatibility issues with portable receivers and they are uncertain if they can be resolved. Overall I give it three stars because I when it is working it works well and has a lot of features at this price point, but the reliability problem out of the box and lack of choices when it comes to portable ADS-B receivers prevents me from giving it a higher rating

The touchscreen is not the best. I find myself stabbing at it to get it to work and scroll way too much. Readability of the screen is not good. Low resolution. Not even close to an iPad. Some items are very hard to see like bodies of water. Crashes way too often. Customer service hasnt been able to find the issue. I do like the audible ADS-B traffic alerts and the ground proximity warning voice but would it have killed you to use a pleasant sounding voice rather than the male heavy smoker voice? Music playback feature is very clunky and basically unusable. I thought this would replace my iPad. It doesnt. Now I fly with the 740b and iPad both. The only reason I still have the 740b in my plan is for the audible alerts and to drive my autopilot in my experimental. Dont waste your time or money on this. Its been a very frustrating road for me so far.

This is a follow up to my August review. After returning my new 740b for the second time, and having the battery replaced, it worked fine- briefly. Now its back to not booting up reliably, even under aircraft power, unless I cycle the battery switch. The number of battery switch cycles it takes to achieve a successful boot up varies between one and four cycles. For now. When if eventually fails to boot up at all- or when I lose my remaining patience with it, I will be replacing it with another product.

Working good. Bigger screen than my Garmin Aera 500 that it replaced. Ive been using the iFly app for ADS-B in so decided just to get the GPS unit. It syncs with my Stratux ADS-B unit.

Great unit ... works as advertised. Only complaint is internal battery only lasts about 30 minutes, so, if you donâ??t have it hard wired to ships power, your limited

I purchased an ifly many years ago and was very happy with the system. It has served us well through our travels. Recently, we had a problem while in flight and the iFly system shut down. Calling Adventure Pilot for help turned out to be a very pleasant and successful endeavor. They couldnt fix the card - it was corrupted - and they not longer supported that version (pretty old!), Bottom line: we will have a new version card within a few days with minimal charge and no hassle. Great service!

Pros: Great GPS for the money. Lots of various functions and options. Easy and comfortable flight planning. Solid satellite locks with its internal GPS WAAS antenna. Internal 15min backup battery. Operating temp up to 176F which is amazing! Very bright! Cons: Screen takes some man handling to scroll, sometimes it takes a second tap to trigger - this could definitely be made better and more responsive. Does not have anti-reflection screen coating in fact acts more like a mirror. Processing power could be a touch better but not too bad though. Screen resolution could be better although its standard for 7 screen gadgets nowadays. Conclusion: For those who dont want to brake the bank its irreplaceable deal! Try out their iFLY GPS android app that is pretty much an exact copy of what you will find on the actual 740b. PANEL MOUNT OPTION: their iFLY store sells so called RAM Mount Adapter. It actually consist of 2 parts sandwiched together - ball mount and device bracket mount. Unscrew ball part out and use the other half to screw directly to your panel. This design will leave 1/4 gap between GPS and your panel but it works and looks great! I do recommend this good product despite a few minor shortcomings.
